Base Material

Selection of the correct base metal is vital in determining shielding effectiveness, ease of production and cost. The table below shows examples of high and low-frequency application areas and the most appropriate materials.

  Applications Preferred Materials
High Freqeuncy
  • Microcontrollers
  • A-D converters
  • Microwave amplifiers
  • Switch-mode power

    supplies

  • CMOS logic and other

    fast switching devices.

Non-ferrous materials such as:
  • Brass
  • Copper
  • Berylium
  • Phosphor Bronze
Low Freqeuncy (<1KHz)
  • Conventional wire

    wound transformers

  • Electromagnetic coils
  • Circuit breakers
  • Relays
  • Audio spectrum

    components

Ferrous materials such as:
  • Steel
  • Mu-metal
  • Radio-Metal
  • Molebdenum
