Immersion coatings come in a wide variety of chemical make-ups, in order to convert the surface for functionality such as increased corrosion resistance, conductivity and anti-galling.

The surface of the material is converted by chemical reaction, for example, Alocrom 1200 will convert the surface of aluminium by complexing the material with chromate. This layer of aluminium chromate serves as a protective layer that cannot react with airborne or waterborne particulates.

Typical applications would be aerospace, defence and automotive.
