RAPID-PROTOTYPE PRECISION PARTS FOR DESIGNERS

Weymouth based Tecan Components has launched a premium service for design engineers, offering rapid prototyping of high-precision micro-engineered parts for a wide range of applications.
Typically, the parts are manufactured using electroforming or chemical etching and can be produced with extremely tight tolerances. A recent example, for a world-leading electronics company, being a 45micron thick gold-plated encoder disk featuring a series of round holes, each only 35micron in diameter with a tolerance of ±5micron. Subject to acceptance, the bespoke service guarantees delivery of first samples within five working days.
In addition to rapid delivery of the first low-volume parts, the service has other benefits. For example, once the part is adopted, down-the-line production speeds and costs are reduced because the tooling is already in place. Modifications can be cost-effectively incorporated within the company’s powerful CAD system, ensuring any ‘knock-on’ tooling costs are also minimised.
