As part of a promotional offer for spring 2007, Tecan is offering photo-chemical machining of customised components at reduced rates and with a turnround of just 48 hours.
Established for over three decades, the Dorset-based company is a world leader in the provision of high-precision pre-production parts for the most demanding applications in OEM markets such as electronics, medical, optical, communications and aerospace.
Typical parts include leadframes, optical encoder disks, screens, meshes, washers, shims and similar custom components. Specialist engineers at the company are on hand to liaise with designers on both prototype, and new concept parts, and are often able to add value to end products and performance characteristics as a result of their extensive knowledge and proprietary expertise.
The company offers high-specification prototypes of flat metal components at very low set costs, based on a standard metal sheet ‘blank’ size of 300mm x 400mm, including in-house plating as necessary (for plated parts the turnround is 72 hours). Base materials include copper, brass, and nickel silver, with other materials available at a premium. Plating options include Tin (3µm to 8µm), electroless nickel (3µm to 8µm), anodising (I ,II and III), and Alocrom 1200.
In addition to the delivery of prototype and pre-production parts, the service has other benefits. For example, once the part is adopted, down-the-line production speeds and costs are reduced
because the tooling is already in place. Future modifications can be readily incorporated if necessary using the company’s powerful CAD system, ensuring any ‘knock-on’ tooling costs are also minimised. A refund is offered on any subsequent production order in excess of £2,000. The promotion offers designers the first sheet including CAD and tooling for £129 and up to ten maximum at £19 each thereafter. The 48 hour and 72 hour offerings are subject to orders received by 10am on day one. The offer precludes existing parts and is subject to one order per customer, acceptable CAD files, and five variations per customer. The offer ends 30th June 2007.
Designers of new parts and those seeking urgent access to high-quality precision-engineered parts for repair or retrofit can all benefit from the service. Similarly, low- and medium-volume production runs can be manufactured.
AutoCad DFX and DWGCAD formats are preferred. All parts are produced within the company’s strict BS EN ISO 9001:2000 quality-control regime.
