Recognition of 30 years service by world-leading local company

In recognition of three decades of service, a local company, Tecan has presented one of its longest-standing employees with a cheque for £1000. The recipient, Colin Bird, now an R&D specialist, began his 30 years of service back in 1975 as a young apprentice.
"Tecan's success is a combination of specialist knowledge and loyal employees with a sincere desire to please. A good deal of our work is bespoke and depends on excellent communication backed by world-leading technical know how," said Paul Cane, chairman and founder, Tecan. "Colin is a fine example of our strength in unity and ongoing technical expertise which are essential for continued growth, he certainly has been very good for Tecan, and I hope we have been good for him."
The company which employs over 126 people has an impressive track record of staff loyalty, 66 of whom have over five years service, 29 over ten years, 16 over fifteen years and 8 with over twenty years service. Staff training and development are seen as key elements in the company's world-leading status and along with its ongoing recognition of achievement and loyalty are at the core of its success.
Mr Bird, was also presented with a plaque, precision-etched by the company itself of course, which is inscribed with the words: 'To Colin Bird to commemorate thirty years of loyal service to Tecan, from 23rd April 1975 to 23rd April 2005.
Based on the Granby Industrial Estate, Weymouth - Tecan is a world-class, ISO 9001:2000 registered precision metal part and tool manufacturer. Formed in west London in 1970, the company moved to Weymouth in 1974, offering fully-integrated manufacturing solutions, from technology development through to rapid prototyping and volume production.
Tecan's team of experienced engineers works closely with the customer to develop manufacturing solutions to meet their exact cost and tolerance requirements. Years of process development have culminated in Tecan being able to cost-effectively manufacture metal parts with feature sizes down to 2-micron at sub-micron accuracy - to put that into perspective, a human hair is typically 50 microns in diameter.
Technological innovation and expertise form the basis of Tecan's success, and have provided the platform for the development of competences in several
process technologies, including: Photo Chemical Machining (PCM), Photo ElectroForming (PEF), Precision photolithography, Precision electroplating and Metal finishing.
