Micro-Technology

Technology on the micro-scale has its origins in the development of microelectronic circuits in the 1960s. More recently, engineers have realised that not only electronic devices, but also mechanical devices can be miniaturized, promising the same benefits to the mechanical world as integrated circuit technology has given to the electrical world.

Today, micromechanical devices are key components in a wide range of products such as vehicle airbags, ink-jet printers, blood pressure monitors and projection display systems.

Tecan draws upon its 30-year experience of manufacturing precision parts to offer a solution to the most demanding micromechanical requirements – from technology development through to rapid prototyping and ultimately volume production. Using advanced precision photolithography and Photo Electro Forming techniques, Tecan produces micro parts and components with feature sizes and tolerance measured in microns, nanometers and even angstroms.
